On the eve of the 41st 2014 Baja 500, driver of record Tim Whale and business partner Mark Hoashi are preparing themselves for an adventure that thousands dream about and only a hand full get to experience. Team Badoink Trophy Spec #869 will take the 60th green flag on Saturday June 7th and drive for the win, but also for the reward of knowing they have accomplished an amazing feat. “This has been an eye opening experience. We watched all kinds of GoPro Videos and there is nothing that can show the detail and difficulty of what we actually had to learn. We have learned so much in the last couple weeks it is amazing, the Driven Experiences team has really taken us on a ride of a lifetime and we are looking forward to tomorrow,” said Tim Whale, driver of record.
The blue and white Team Badionk #869 will start 9th in their Trophy Truck Spec Class at approximately 10:30am on Saturday June 7th. The race can be tracked online at www.Score-International.com.
Three weeks ago Tim and Mark didn’t have any understanding of the dynamics of an off-road vehicle or the Baja desert. After an intensive two weeks of driving between Driven Experiences training facility at Gateway Canyons Resort in Colorado, the deserts of Barstow California and a full week in Baja pre-running, the team is confident that they are starting with the skills they need to finish.
Tim began looking for a program like Driven Experiences offers years ago. When he recently saw a GoPro video that featured the race truck, he called Driven Experience to see how it worked. Talking to Andrew Hendricks and Jeff Humberson they scheduled the Baja 500 opportunity led by Chuck Dempsey. Tim, travelling from London, and Mark, travelling from San Francisco, arrived in Colorado with high expectations yet no idea how the team would get them to the finish line. With the help of their sponsors Well Hello!, Like a Boss, Media Reps, Mojo Host, Gilad Desert Produce Ltd and J-Pop Music Group, Team Badoink has confidence that the finish line is in sight.
With the race starting in less than 24 hours, Tim and Mark had this to say:
Tim Quote – “Contingency is amazing, all the people that are here are crazy, yet again another factor of this race that you can’t explain. I am ready for tomorrow, we have been working hard to learn everything, and I feel confident, yet extremely nervous. I will be running the first 240 miles with Dave Tugnet and then will deliver the car to Mark in San Mitas to take to the finish with Chuck Dempsey.”
Mark Quote – “This entire experience has been insane. There is nothing like it. They say I now have a perma-grin from ear to ear. Being in the truck hasn’t only offered me a driving experience, but it has also proven to be one of the most rewarding life experiences that I have had in many years.”
