Sam Berri on Pole Position for Xtreme Outlaws 250 ; Spectator Viewing Areas for Xtreme Outlaws Desert Race

RENO, NV   JUNE 18, 2010:   This morning kicked off the Xtreme Outlaw weekend with the VORRA Xtreme Outlaw 250 Qualifying for all pro classes. Sam Berri was the fastest with a 5 minute 40 second run and will sit on the pole position of the race starting at 9am Saturday June 19th.  The starting order is listed below, with late registration information being collected now.

Spectators are welcome to watch the race from either Patrick Rd Exit 28 or USA Parkway.  Please do not drive on the racecourse and be sure to keep all small children and animals at least 75 feet away from the course.  The course has significantly changed in the last day completely bypassing the town of Virginia City, eliminating all spectating areas on that side of the course.

The race will begin at 9am in the parking lot of the Grand Sierra Resort where drivers will participate in the Grand Sierra Leap, a jump where they will compete for distance.  When the drivers have all completed the leap, they will parade down Interstate 80 to Exit 28 where they will get the official green flag.  Drivers will complete 3 torturous loops, and take the checker flag at Exit 28. Top competitors are expected to finish the race in around 5 hours, with an overall limit of 10 hours of racing.

“This race is setting up to be an epic race in VORRA’s history.  Rod Hall helped create an amazing course that is on fresh desert floor and is all new terrain to every single racer thanks to the efforts of Don Gilman and Roger Norman,“ states Wes Harbor, VORRA Director.  And if the virgin course isn’t enough momentum for the drivers, the Xtreme Outlaw 250 will award this years over-all podium with $10,000 in cash and prizes, and a spectacular “Six-Shooters” trophy will be given to the “First Ever Winner” of what will become one of the top races to compete in year after year.

VORRA is in its 35th year of producing high quality yet affordable racing while also creating fun events around the race making it a great place to have friends and family enjoy Father’s Day Weekend spectating or competing.

Valley Off Road Racing Association (VORRA) was established in 1975 as a family-oriented organization and is led by current promoter Wes Harbor who believes that “off road racing has its roots in people’s garages”.  VORRA is the only organization to offer both four short course races and four desert races as part of its overall season championship.  Each race draws over 60 racers between multiple classes available for Cars, Trucks, Pilots, ATV, UTV and Trophy Karts.  In 2010 VORRA has added two additional truck classes and a stand alone ATV Race Series.  More information can be found at
