Roger Norman Looses GPS Unit During BITD Vegas to Reno Qualifying Run

RENO, NV     AUGUST 18, 2010  –  Roger Norman lost his GPS unit during the Qualifying Run on Wednesday afternoon and placed unofficially around 26th in the starting order for Fridays Best in the Desert Vegas to Reno race.  “I did absolutely awful,” said Roger Norman.  “I was a little flustered off the start because the course map disappeared from both GPS units and didn’t reappear until we shut off the motor after the qualifying run.  My co-driver, Jake Velasco, hasn’t had training in rally notes yet, so we had nothing to go by other than the desert track.”  At the end of the course “we hit the very last corner a little too hard and had to back up in order to miss a cone. Hitting a cone is a 15 second penalty,” commented Norman.

There are 48 Class 1400 Trick Trucks registered for Friday’s Best In the Desert Vegas to Reno race.  “I am disappointed that we will be starting so far back, it will be a dusty day!” said Norman who will have to drive the Crystal Bay Casino #8 Trick Truck through the pack to take the win.  Roger Norman already has a successful track record of passing through the crowd including going from 35th to 4th in the 2010 Baja 500.

Armin Schwartz, from Austria, will be taking the drivers seat at Race Mile 308 with his navigator and crew chief Bryan Lytle as his co-driver.  This will be Schwartz Trick Truck premier, with only 30 miles under his belt on Wednesday.  “I am glad that he joined our team for this race,” said Norman.  “He had a great day in the truck today and said he felt comfortable.  They practiced changing some tires and I think they are ready to race!”

As a reminder, Norman Motorsports in El Cajon, CA will be hosting a fundraiser to benefit FAST-Aid, Cruz Roja and the Emergency Services of Erendira next Saturday August 28, 2010, doors open at 2pm.  The premier of Dezert People 8 will be at 3pm and will show continuously throughout the afternoon.
