Chris Ridgway Takes Crushing Blow to Knee That Takes Him Out of 2010 X Games Competition

Chris Ridgway 1APPLE VALLEY, CA – August 11, 2010:  Chris Ridgway took a blow to the knee during practice on Wednesday that found him unable to put any weight on his leg, especially once he tried to put on his Prosthetic leg.  “I am so disappointed.  I have worked all year for this race, and just feel like I am letting everyone down who has helped me get here,” said Chris Ridgway, the 2008 and 2009 X Games Adaptive Moto X Super X Gold Medal winner.

During the second practice session on Wednesday, he came down the back stretch of whoops and was off rhythm just enough to hit the top of one that threw his weight over the handlebars.  His knee stopped the launch, but the triple clamps did too much damage.  He struggled with managing pain all night, and followed up with the Asterisk medical team who, after removing 2 vials of bloody fluid, suggested that he not compete.   Not wanting to give up, Ridgway continued on the path of getting ready for the 3:30pm race and had his knee filled with Novocain.  “I can’t do it, I can’t put any weight on it,” said an extremely frustrated and disappointed Ridgway 3 hours before the race.

Chris Ridgway 2He is the reigning champion, who was working towards capturing his 3rd X Games Adaptive Moto X Super X Gold Medal coordinated by Adaptive Action Sports.  He recently won his fourth straight Extremity Games Gold Metal on his RMZ450.  Ridgway is an amputee who landed wrong on a large jump and after multiple surgeries, it was a better solution to amputate than continue with the pain.  He now rides with a Prosthetic leg and is challenged with not being able to shift gears.

Ridgway had the full factory support of Suzuki City and Brian Roth of Roth Racing was his Mechanic. He was to be sporting the brand new 2011 MSR NXT Gear with his title sponsor Griffin Radiator.

Chris Ridgway 3About Chris Ridgway – Chris Ridgway is an amputee and competes wearing a prosthetic left leg.  His professional motocross career was cut short in 1995 when he had a “bad day at the office” falling from over 30 ft in the air and has since struggled to maintain strength in both his legs. After eight years, he finally convinced a doctor to amputate his left leg and is now stronger than ever.  His competitive spirit originated with motocross and now he competes in many different events, including motocross, Rock Racing, King of the Hammers, Grand Am Rolex Series, the Silver State Classic, and Baja 1000.  Some of his impressive wins include the X Games Gold Medalist: 2008, 2009; and the Extremity Games Gold Medalist: 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010.
